Matcha Green Tea Latte (Printable)

A vibrant, creamy drink blending finely milled matcha green tea with steamed milk for a smooth, energizing beverage.

# What You Need:

→ Matcha Base

01 - 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
02 - 2 tablespoons hot water (175°F)

→ Milk

03 - 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based alternative)

→ Sweetener

04 - 1–2 teaspoons honey, maple syrup, or sugar (optional)

# Directions:

01 - Sift the matcha powder into a bowl or mug to prevent lumps.
02 - Add hot water and whisk briskly in a zigzag motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy.
03 - In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until steaming but not boiling. Alternatively, froth the milk using a milk frother.
04 - Pour the matcha mixture into two mugs.
05 - Add sweetener to taste, if desired.
06 - Gently pour the steamed milk over the matcha, holding back the foam with a spoon, then spoon the foam on top.
07 - Serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It gives you calm energy without the jittery crash of coffee, thanks to matchas unique combination of caffeine and L-theanine.
  • The vibrant green color and creamy texture make every sip feel like a small, intentional ritual.
  • You can customize the sweetness and milk type to match your mood or dietary needs perfectly.
02 -
  • Always sift the matcha, even if it looks smooth in the tin, because those sneaky lumps will float on top and taste chalky.
  • Water temperature is everything. Boiling water turns matcha harsh and metallic, so let it cool just enough to touch the side of the kettle without burning yourself.
  • Whisk with confidence. Timid stirring wont create the froth, so commit to those quick zigzag strokes until you see bubbles forming on the surface.
03 -
  • Store matcha in an airtight container in the fridge to keep it vibrant and fresh, because exposure to light and air dulls its color and flavor fast.
  • If your matcha tastes too grassy or bitter, try adding a splash more milk or a bit more sweetener instead of using less matcha, the balance is more forgiving than you think.
  • Preheat your mug with hot water before assembling the latte so it stays warm longer, a trick I learned from a barista friend that makes a surprising difference.
